DARTS players will be putting in a double top effort at a fundraising event in memory of a brave Dorchester schoolboy.

Jo Lee has organised a darts marathon and fun day at the Cornwall Hotel in Alexandra Road on Saturday, August 25, to raise funds where her son Peter was cared for during his battle with leukaemia.

Despite a courageous fight against the disease, Dorchester Middle School pupil Peter died in January 2010 at the age of just 12.

Since his death Jo has taken on a range of fundraising activities for charities and other organisations that supported Peter and the family during their time of need.

Her latest event will offer a fun-packed day of entertainment and a chance to cheer on around 30 darts players who will be stepping up to the oche and throwing arrows for 12 hours straight from 10am.

There will be live bands, karaoke, a raffle, tombola, face painting, skittle alley and stocks with brave volunteers acting as targets for sponge throwers as well as other fun games.

Money raised during the day will go to the Piam Brown ward at Southampton General Hospital, where Peter was treated for a year.

Jo said she had experienced firsthand the fantastic work staff on the ward do and wanted to help other young children and their families who had to go through the same thing.

She said: “They do treatment for babies up to 16-year-olds and it’s quite shocking to see a child who has just started life going through that, I think the youngest I saw when I was there was a baby about four months old.

“We know hard it is.”

Jo said she was grateful to all those businesses and other people who had donated raffle prizes and shown their support for the event.

She said: “We have had a lot of donations from different shops and want to say a big thank you to them.”

Jo said people can just turn up throughout the day and into the evening to enjoy the entertainment and support the darts players.

She said: “Hopefully people will come along and support us.”
