ASPIRING musicians are invited to find out more about playing an instrument at West Dorset Music’s information evening on Wednesday, September 12.

A range of instruments will be demonstrated at the Christian Fellowship Hall in East Street, Bridport, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and there will be the possibility to try out a small selection.

The evening is open to anyone in West Dorset who is considering learning to play an instrument or who has a child showing an interest. Initially, teaching will start on clarinet, saxophone, violin and viola but it is hoped that brass instruments and piano will also be offered.

West Dorset Music is run in partnership with local music co-operative, Strawberry Music.

Director Walter Brewster said: “Last year we helped to run just the West Dorset Community Orchestra for all ages and abilities. Now we want to provide groups for those players who have just started.”

Pat Crawford, former director of West Dorset Music Centre, added: “We are now meeting every week and hope that by offering tuition we will encourage many more people to think about starting to play an instrument or taking one up again.”

Weekly rehearsals will start with a free taster session for all players on September 19 at the same venue.
