A POST mortem examination has revealed a Weymouth dad died of natural causes.

Patrick Goodman, pictured, died in hospital after sustaining a head injury in Turton Street, Weymouth, on Sunday evening.

A police inquiry found the 44-year-old father-of-four, who lived with his family on Somerset Road, died of natural causes.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said the family had been made aware of the findings and the 25-year-old man who had been arrested in connection with the incident has been released from police bail.

He said: “Since the witness appeal following the death of a man on Sunday in Melcombe Regis a post-mortem has revealed that the man died of natural causes and the man arrested released from police bail.”

Mr Goodman, a painter and decorator, was well-known around Weymouth. Residents spoke of their shock at his death.

He leaves behind his wife Joanne, their two children, Amy, 11, and Spencer, seven, and two stepdaughters, Heidi, 20, and Danielle, 23, who he had raised from a young age.

His family said they were relieved to know the full circumstances and described it as a ‘tragic accident’.

Mrs Goodman said: “Losing him like this is hard for us because it was so sudden, it was a shock. You just don’t expect something like that to happen. We’re all going to miss him, he was a brilliant father and a good husband.”
