DORSET organisations are being urged to celebrate the contributions of local volunteers.

Volunteer Centre Dorset is looking for nominations of heroic volunteers, who will be recognised at its annual awards evening at the Dorford Centre in Dorchester on October 25.

Nominations are invited for three categories, young volunteer of the year for under-25s, volunteer group of the year and volunteer of the year.

The awards evening will coincide with national Make a Difference Day, which is showcasing the outstanding contributions of the voluntary sector over the last year. There will be live music and refreshments from 6.30pm.

Deputy manager for Volunteer Centre Dorset Craig Womble said: “We had almost 200 guests last year, and with so much county-wide community engagement this year – which has included the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations as well as everything connected with the 2012 Olympics – we feel this year volunteers new and old have really gone that little bit further and have really made it a year to remember.”

Nominations must be made by September 28 by calling 01305 269214 or emailing c.womble@ volunteeringdorset.org.uk.

Volunteer Centre Dorset also has sponsorship packages available for the event and is keen to hear from anyone who can offer their support.
