A DISABLED woman is hoping for plenty of support as she tackled a charity challenge from Weymouth to Dorchester .

Sheree-Jane Tebbutt will be accompanied by friends as she takes on a 13-mile route from Weymouth seafront to the Joseph Weld Hospice in her wheelchair to raise funds for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

The charity is a cause close to Sheree-Jane’s heart as she lost her mother to cancer as well as two other people close to her, who were looked after at the hospice.

She said: “Weldmar really looked after them and they have to rely on charitable donations from people like myself.”

Sheree-Jane, who has been supporting Weldmar’s Echo-backed Go for Gold fundraising campaign, and her friends will set off on their challenge from the Jubilee Clock Tower on Weymouth’s Esplanade at 10am tomorrow.

Their route will take them along Preston Beach Road and through Littlemoor before heading up the Ridgeway to Dorchester and she hopes to arrive at the hospice at around 2pm.

They will be specially dressed for the occasion and Sheree-Jane is calling on passing motorists to toot their horns in support.

She said: “We are all going to be in pyjamas and dressing gowns but looking at the weather forecast it’s going to be scorching so we might be dumping the dressing gowns en route.

“We are expecting to catch people’s attention.”

The challenge comes at the end of a week of fundraising activity for Sheree-Jane, who has been carrying out various activities like sailing from Weymouth to Osmington to attract sponsorship.

She is hoping to raise well over £1,000 for her chosen charity.

Sheree-Jane, who has spinal problems as well as other health problems, has been in a wheelchair for 26 years and hopes her efforts will inspire others and reinforce the message sent out by the Paralympics. She said: “It doesn’t matter what disability you have got, if you want to do something you can go out and do it.”

Anyone wishing to donate can pick up sponsorship forms from Sports Direct, Wilkinsons and Asda in Weymouth or go online to www.justgiving.com/SHEREE-JANE-TEBBUTT.

Sheree-Jane said: “Hopefully people will donate, even if it’s just 10p or something, every penny helps Weldmar.
