AN ARTIST has adapted the Spirit of Bridport logo with a Banksy style graffiti twist.

The iconic image of the flaxen-haired woman sat on a throne whilst working twine has been reworked showing her holding a bottle of wine and a cannabis cigarette.

Four pieces have been found within the town so far in a style similar to the guerrilla graffiti artist Banksy.

The first is near the laundrette in South Street and the second on a Northover and Gilbert sign on Gundry Lane. The original painting was created by Fra Newbery between 1924 and 1927.

Local artist Kit Glaisyer, who is also the Spirit of Bridport group co-chairman, said: “In character it is a light heart piece and I feel it was not meant to be offensive.”

Kit added: “The town is still buzzing from the festival.”

Daryl Chambers, Bridport town council surveyor, appealed for the artist to get in touch for a possible project on 01308 456722.
