INSIGHTS into life in Dorchester during the First World War will be on offer when local historian Brian Bates promotes his recently published book at the town’s Waterstones store.

Brian will be at the book shop from 11am to 2pm on Saturday September 15 with a display of old photographs and to discuss his book.

Brian, who has lived in the town for 41 years, said: “For me real history is the story of the ordinary person and their communities, especially when they find themselves in extraordinary times.

“I really wanted to capture each personal story, and show how the families and town were together affected.”

“Most of the 98 images in the book have never been published before, as they were sourced from individual family archives.”

Mr Bates’s work reveals what life was like in the town during the war. Dorchester Remembers the Great War is published by Roving Press and author royalties will be donated to blindness charities Sense and Sightsavers.
