A CORONER has recorded an open verdict into the death of a man who was found hanged at his home.

Mathew James Hicklin, aged 21, was found dead at his home in Kitchener Road, Weymouth, on July 20.

The inquest at County Hall in Dorchester heard that the former barman had been out drinking the night before and returned home ‘very upset’.

Mr Hicklin’s brother-in-law discovered his body when he went to check up on him, the inquest was told.

Giving evidence, PC Holly Damen said she attended the address and she and paramedics attempted to give emergency first aid to Mr Hicklin.

Coroner for West Dorset Michael Johnston said: “I will record that he died from ligature suspension. The circumstances were that he had been out drinking and returned home very upset.

“He left no note. Because of that I am satisfied that what he did was self-arranged but there is no evidence of what his intentions were when he did it.

“I record an open verdict.”
