FIREFIGHTERS in Dorset are taking the sponge for charity this month.

Fire stations across the county are participating in the Fire Fighters Charity car wash challenge.

Residents will be able to go along to a nearby fire station, learn about vital home fire safety and leave with a squeaky clean vehicle.

Thousands of firefighters will line up outside local stations across the UK with buckets and sponges for the national fundraiser, which will collect donations for the Firefighters Charity.

The Fire Fighters Charity is the official organisation for fire fighters during their times of need and assists more than 13,500 people every year.

Drivers can have shampoo and polish on their cars and can make a charity donation upon exit, there is no minimum or maximum amount.

Dorset fire stations taking part are: Gillingham from 10.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday September 15, Redhill Park from 10am to 4pm on Saturday September 15, Charmouth from 11am to 3pm on Saturday September 22 and Springbourne from 10am to 4pm on Saturday September 29.
