CHARITIES and good causes are invited to share in the proceeds of Weymouth Carnival 2012.

Organisers of the event, which was held in August, are counting up the money that was raised and are ready to consider requests from the local area for donations.

Charitable organisations, youth groups, good causes such as community projects, and individuals in need can apply.

This year’s Weymouth Carnival, which was held a few days after the London Olympics closing ceremony, was declared a success despite heavy rain in the morning which forced the cancellation of some events. Thousands of people enjoyed the entertainment and attractions, which included as a bonus a parade of Olympic sailors on an open-top bus. Secretary of the carnival committee John Kelly said: “We look at all the requests that come into us and try to help as many good causes as we can.

“The closing date for applications is Sunday, September 23 so we urge people to get writing now.

“We will then hold a presentation night when we hand out cheques to the successful applicants.”

Applications should go to John Kelly, Rotary Club of Weymouth c/o The Crown Hotel, 51 St Thomas Street, Weymouth, Dorset DT4 8EQ.
