THE WESSEX Autistic Society is running a series of free training workshops in Weymouth.

The monthly sessions for parents and carers at the Weymouth Community Safety Centre in Radipole Lane start in October.

They will help parents and carers better understand a child’s autism and cover topics such as supporting difficult behaviour, communication and everyday relationships, sensory difficulties and adolescence.

The Wessex Autistic Society’s advocacy services manager Karen Wilmshurst said: “Many parents who contact our information and advice service are seeking to access appropriate training, which is not always available due to funding issues or age restrictions.

“Our training has therefore been designed to enable parents and carers to receive comprehensive guidance and support to help overcome difficulties and aid development.

“We’re looking forward to working with parents and carers to identify tools and strategies, which will enable them to adopt a positive approach to behaviour and development.”
