POLICE are investigating after vandals damaged a bus shelter and youths hurled stones and abuse in Weymouth.

Both incidents ast Littlemoor occurred within hours of each other on Tuesday evening and are being treated as linked.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them to help with their enquiries.

Vandals shattered the glass panels of a bus shelter in Louviers Road at around 10pm.

Two hours earlier police were called to Hamilton Close to a report of youths throwing stones at people’s windows and being abusive. No damage was caused by the stone throwing.

Borough councillor Rachel Rogers, who represents Little-moor, said: “At the end of the day I am concerned that residents are being disturbed by people who behave in a careless, dangerous and inconsiderate manner.

Anti-social behaviour of this kind causes lots of distress to residents and we need to ensure that we respond and deal with it.

“I will continue to work with police concerning these issues.”

Many residents who use the bus stop in Louviers Road said they are tired of this kind of ‘pointless’ vandalism.

Angela Wall, of Geelong Close, said: “It is disgusting that this has happened. I only live round the corner.

“Things like this happen around here all the time and all the residents are fed up with it.”

Diana Jeffrey, also of Geelong Close, said: “It is absolutely disgusting.

“I use this bus stop all the time and it looks like it took whoever did it a lot of effort to cause this much damage.

“We really need some CCTV around here. I just can’t believe they weren’t stopped.

“I think since the street lights have been turned off it has been made worse and more damage is being caused.”

Andy Searle, of Portland , attended the scene to clear up the shattered glass on behalf of Dorset County Council.

He said: “I feel how the residents do – it is disgusting.

“I have to clean up after incidents like this all the time.

“It is pointless vandalism and it needs to stop. ”

Investigation

A SPOKESMAN for Dorset Police said an investigation into both incidents is underway. He said: “The criminal damage to the bus shelter on Louviers Road was reported to us at 10pm on September 11 by a member of the public. They reported that all the panels in the bus shelter had been put in.”

The incident is being investigated in connection to another incident in Hamilton Close at 8pm where “youths were throwing stones at people’s windows and being abusive.”

Anyone with details should call Dorset Police on 101.
