CERNE ABBAS SCHOOL Applications: Cerne Abbas First School would like to remind everyone that applications for school registrations are now being accepted.

SPONSORED Walk: Some of Cerne Abbas First School’s children are undertaking a sponsored walk in aid of local hero Jason Gould and Help for Heros.

The walk takes place on Saturday, October 6, starting at 8am.

It will take them from Bovington Camp to Sherborne and cover a total of 24.8 miles.

CRUSADERS: Cerne Crusaders have started up again so if you would like your child to be a part don’t hesitate to come along!

Cerne Crusaders Club meets on Thursday evenings at the Village Hall, from 5pm – 6:45pm.

It is a Christian Club and part of a national organisation called Urban Saints.

There will be lots of games and the club will also be continuing with the exciting adventures of the children in Roman Days.

PRAYER time: A monthly opportunity exists to get together on the first Tuesday of every month at St. Mary’s Church – an opportunity to join in prayer.

The evening which lasts from 7:15pm – 8pm begins with open prayer and ends with Compline, a short service of night prayer.

Everyone is welcome to come along, taking part and leaving at any time during those 45 minutes.

Forthcoming dates are Tuesday, October 2 and Tuesday, November 6.

HISTORICAL Society: The next meeting (non-members are welcome against payment of a small fee) takes place on Thursday, September 27.

Dr Alan Chedzoy will be speaking on “The People’s Poet: William Barnes”.

He is the author of several books and his broadcasts and recordings of the poems of Barnes and Hardy have been very well received.

The talk starts at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

LITERATURE Group: A reminder that an autumn literature course is about to start, with the title “Literature across the Pond: Six American and Canadian Classics”.

The course cost is £ 35, it will be held from Tuesday, October 2 until Tuesday, November 13.

THEATRE Club: The autumn programme of Cerne Abbas Theatre Club starts on Tuesday, October 9 with a performance by the Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society, followed by a performance of “The Nutcracker” on Sunday, November 4.
