PEOPLE are being advised to take extra care when dealing with cold-calling traders after a spate of complaints about ‘jobbing drive-layers’.

Dorset Police and Dorset County Council’s trading standards service have received several calls form concerned members of the public.

Richard Herringshaw, principal trading standards officer at the council, said: “When dealing with a trader who has knocked on your door on the off-chance, the first thing to consider is, do you really know who they are and where they are from.

“If things go wrong, it may be difficult to follow up later. If you do decide to go ahead, for jobs over £35, you must be given a notice of your seven-day right to cancel.”
