AN APPEAL has been launched to round up all the Giant Wall portraits before next month’s new deadline.

The Cultural Olympiad project, run by the borough’s Artwey group over the past year, will culminate in two giant wall hangings made from the images of inspirational people.

In celebration of the Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, Artwey artists held free workshops throughout the community, in schools, day centres, scout huts and for 25 Dorset Mayors, to help local residents celebrate the ‘giants’ in their lives.

Hundreds of portraits have been created and Artwey group are now in the process of stitching all the work together.

Once completed, the two huge wall hangings will be on show to the public permanently at Weymouth's Community Fire Station and Portland ' s Brackenberry Centre as a legacy from this very special year.

The finishing date for handing in portraits has now been extended to Sunday October 7.

Artist Olivia Nurrish, inset, said: “Calling all Giant makers!

“Did you start a Giant and put it away in a drawer, or think you were too late to hand it in?

“We know there are lots still out there which we haven't had back, don't worry, we are holding an amnesty and extending our deadline to October 7.”

Anyone who bought a portrait pack is being urged by Artwey to ‘dig it out and finish it, then drop it in to Jacksons Gallery, Island Gallery, The Full Gamut, Cove Gallery and Gallery on the Wey or Brewer's Quay Workshops.
