A TEENAGER from Weymouth will be ditching her phone and hair dryer to raise money for a volunteering trip to India.

Grace Passoni, 18, of Broadwey , is planning to go “unplugged” for a week which means no phone, TV, internet or any other electrical devices.

The week without technology will start on September 28 to raise sponsorship for her trip to India through the International Citizen Service (ICS).

The ICS is a government funded volunteering programme which gives young people the opportunity to learn from each other and tackle global issues.

Miss Passoni will be raising vital funds for the young people’s charity Restless Development, which works in partnership with the ICS.

Miss Passoni said: “I am doing this for many reasons but most importantly I would like to give something back to young people that have not had the same opportunities as I have and I believe that working and living with young people from different cultures will be a valuable life experience.”

She has to raise £800 for the charity before she can take on the three month voluntary work where she will be teaching English to young people and providing vital information about hygiene and safe sex.

Miss Passoni has had a lot of support from her family and friends, as well as from the Heathlands Hotel in Bournemouth where she works.
