FLAGS are being lowered in Dorchester as a popular competition comes to an end.

The Dorchester BID (Business Improvement District), the town’s Chamber of Commerce and Dorchester Town Council ran the flags of the world competition throughout the summer.

It saw 120 flags displayed in shops and businesses throughout the county town with youngsters challenged to collect the flags and then identify what they all were.

Phil Gordon from the BID said they had received around 100 entries for the competition and feedback from businesses suggested many more had taken part.

He said: “The competition is now closed and we are working through the entries and are hoping to make an announcement in the next couple of weeks to say who the winners are.”

The winners of the competition will receive £75 to spend in one of the participating shops, with a £40 voucher up for grabs to the runner-up and £20 for third place.

Mr Gordon said one of the most successful elements of the competition had been the way it had put some businesses out of the centre of town on the map.
