YOUNGSTERS from Weymouth were given the chance to name a new care home for the elderly.

Gracewell Healthcare invited the pupils from Holy Trinity Church of England School to name its latest development which will be coming to Cross Road in Weymouth.

The winning name was Highclere House and came from seven-year-old Tiegan Sharpe.

The Mayor of Weymouth and Portland , Coun Margaret Leicester announced the winner from the shortlist and presented the school with a £250 Waterstones voucher for school books.

Tiegan accepted the prize on behalf of her classmates with her mum, Sarah Flann.

Tiegan said: “The picture of the home looked great on the big board. I can’t wait to see when it’s finished.”

She chose the name Highclere House after being told there used to be a Highclere Court in Weymouth.

Gracewell Healthcare director, Peter Curtis said it was fantastic to draw inspiration from local history. He added: “We’re very much looking forward to building a strong relationship with Holy Trinity School and the wider community because we believe young and older people can gain and learn so much from each other.”

Highclere House care home, which is due to open in March 2013, will have some innovative features including a beauty salon, a New-York style nail bar, a cafe serving gourmet food and a library with wi-fi access.
