FILMS will be showing in village halls, pubs, art centres, tourist attractions and hotels as well as cinemas next month in honour of Purbeck Film Festival.
Now in its 16th year, the week-long cinematic celebration will be held from Friday October 12 to Saturday October 27, with more venues and film choices than ever before.
The event is set to open at the Rex Cinema, in Wareham with an Academy Award winning short film by Dutch director Micahel Dudok de Wit, followed by the 2011 film The Well Digger’s Daughter, adapted from a Marcel Pagnol novel, starring and directed by Daniel Auteuil from 7.15pm.
The Lighthouse theatre in Poole will also open on October 12 with Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, while other opening weekend events will include a screening of Hugo at Briantspuddle Village Hall and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at Stoborough Village Hall.
Elizabeth Taylor’s 60-year career will be among the themes of Purbeck Film Festival 2012 – a showcase of both her beauty and her ability to take on emotionally charged characters.
The festival week will also be exploring the theme of comedy and offer a must-see collection of side splitting films including the Marx Brothers’ Duck Soup.
A special exhibition will run as part of the festival at Durlston World Heritage Site in Swanage.
The exhibition runs for two weeks in the Fine Foundation Exhibition Hall at Durlston Castle and will comprise material from the British Film Institute and Bill Douglas Centre at Exeter University.
There will also be another opportunity to see The Artist here, and a speaker from the Magic Lantern Society will deliver an illustrated talk.
Festival administrator Julie Sharman said the many highlights would include a screening of Trishna at Langton Matravers Village Hall with executive producer Phil Hunt, an evening of gothic horror at the Winchester Bar in Bourne-mouth, George Formby’s No Limit at The Square and Compass, and Far From the Madding Crowd at Bloxworth Village Hall.
