OCTOBER is the time for apples and harvest events and the Big Green Apple Day at Thorners School, Litton Cheney near Bridport is a day with a difference.

The Big Green Apple Day on October 6 is perfect family fun where you can browse gifts and eco stalls, sample alternative cooking, hot food and cider and enjoy live music from the Buckydonts, Impromptu and buskers.

Visitors will be able to meet local bats, butterflies and moths, even birds of prey and try their hand at a wide range of woodland crafts, forest school activities, family bushcraft skills, weaving, spinning, ancient trading, storytelling, archery, circus skills, apple slingshot, stone carving, green woodworking and more.

The day also has a unique twist where you might even bump into an ancient ancestor or two in the history camp with ancient skills and cooking to try.

Apples also play a big part in the day and you can try your hand – and teeth – at apple bobbing and tree dressing and then tuck in to delicious apple pie and cake with cream, fritters and more.

The history twist is to inspire visitors to help raise money to build a Saxon hut and woodworking area for the local community.

This year the volunteers from FODA (Friends of the Discovery Area at Thorner School ) have been working hard to continue with the regeneration of an acre of overgrown land at the school in Litton Cheney and make it into an outdoor paradise for children and families from the wider community.
