A CAR smashed into a fancy dress shop in Weymouth following a collision with another vehicle.

Owner of The Party Shop Jan O’Brien said it was ‘a miracle’ no one was injured in the crash, which destroyed a shop window and damaged two cars.

The collision involving a silver Vauxhall Astra, registered to a man from Berkshire, and a blue Seat Leon, registered to a Weymouth man, happened at around 8.30pm on Sunday evening.

Dorset Police, South Western Ambulance Service and Dorset Fire and Rescue Service attended and remained on the scene in Abbotsbury Road until 10.55pm.

Mrs O’Brien said: “We don’t know the circumstances, the police are coming in to look at our CCTV, but two cars were involved and one of them ended up in the shop window.

“There was a really big impact. It’s a miracle no one was hurt if you saw the state of the two cars.

“We’re waiting to see if there was any structural damage to the building as there’s a great big dent in the wall.

“It’s very scary, I’m just glad we weren’t open and above all that no one was seriously hurt.

“There was an older couple in one of the cars, who were very, very shaken up. I wish them well.”

Mrs O’Brien, pictured below, said around eight friends and family members rallied around to help clear up the damage and ensure the shop, which has been running 17 years, could open yesterday morning.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We had a call just before 8.30pm on Sunday night about a two vehicle road traffic collision.

“A car had gone into a window of a fancy dress shop in Abbotsbury Road.”
