THE council has agreed to spend £4million repairing Weymouth harbour wall.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council approved the funding and awarded the contract to Balfour Beatty Civil Engineers at a cost of £3,920,000.
One councillor expressed concerns that the figure is the ‘tip of the iceberg’ and estimated the total cost would be around £8million.
He also said he was concerned whether Condor would return to Weymouth next year as planned.
Council officers said initially the funds will come from internal sources and in the long term will have to be borrowed and will take more than 40 years to pay back.
Members of the management committee voted in favour of the proposal at a meeting earlier today.
