THE organisers of Bridport’s new Christ-mas festival are writing their festive wish-list and right at the top is a new name for the event.

The committee wants suggestions for a new title for the glittering evening on Wednesday December 5.

In common with Dor-chester’s Christmas Cracker and Weymouth’s Christmas Sparkle, a competition has been organised to find a suitably seasonal tag for the evening which has proved hugely successful in past years.

And like Santa, the festival needs more helpers are needed to make the event come to life. From 6pm to 8pm on the night shops will stay open, stalls and entertainment will be on the streets and Father Christmas will be the star of the show.

The new co-ordinator is Becky Kingston, who designs and makes greetings cards and has a market stall and is involved in craft fairs.

Other committee members, who have come forward to ensure the event continues are Jason Foote of Footeprints, Tourist Information Centre manager Terri Foxwell, arts centre programme manager Margie Barbour, Coun Sandra Brown and town surveyor Daryl Chambers.

To update the event and give the town a Christmassy brand to promote, people are asked to write down their suggestions, with their name and address and contact details and drop it in to the Tourist Information Centre or the town council offices at Mountfield or email enquiries@bridport-tc.gov.uk by Monday October 8.

The prize for the winning suggestion will be 100 personalised Christmas cards designed and printed by Footeprints and two sheets of personalised Christmas wrapping paper.

Becky Kingston said she was hoping plenty of local people would come forward to take part in the festivities.

Anyone interested in getting involved is asked to contact the town council on 01308 456722 or email enquiries@bridporttc. gov.uk
