Briantspuddle Singers are looking for a new conductor as Dr Richard Hall prepares to hand over the baton after 37 years. Richard’s last concert will be in the summer of next year.

Briantspuddle Singers was founded towards the end of the Second World War by Biddy Kindersly. Richard took over from Biddy in 1976.

Just two conductors in nearly 70 years is quite a record.

The choir meets on Tuesday evenings in term time in Briantspuddle village hall.

Richard, who is also director of The Dorset Rural Music School in Blandford, said: “That BPS continues to flourish nearly 70 years later while so many other village choral societies have ceased to exist can be attributed to the skill and humanity of Biddy Kindersley and also to the splendid village hall in Briantspuddle, which provides a highly sympathetic rehearsal space.

“I shall greatly miss working with such a friendly and willing group of singers but it’s high time the choir has fresh impetus from a new conductor.”

Richard has continued earlier traditions, while expanding the choir’s repertoire and range of activities to include large choral works with The Dorset Guild of Singers and a huge variety of other sacred and secular works, including especially commissioned works.

This is a paid post and BPS is a non-auditioning choir. To apply for the post visit briantspuddlesingers .co.uk or call BPS chairman David Hallatt on 01929 471383.
