11:30am Saturday 6th October 2012 in News
THE skipper of the Purbeck Isle will be remembered with a memorial bench.
David McFarlane’s family have been allowed to place a bench at Chesil Cove to remember him.
The bench, which will be shaped liked two surf boards, will be placed close to the Cove House Inn.
Chesil Cove is special to Mr McFarlane’s family.
Mr McFarlane’s father, Colin McFarlane, said: “We are delighted.
“It’s exactly where we wanted it to be.
“David and his family often sat in front of the Cove House Inn and had a meal and a drink and watched the sun go down and just enjoyed that bit of Portland.”
He added: “It turned out just as we would have wished.”
The family are waiting to hear when the work will start to install the bench.
Councillor Andy Blackwood, spokes-man for Community Facilities at the borough council, said: “We are liaising with both the manufacturers Albion Stone and G Crook & Sons, whose donation paid for it, to have it installed ASAP.”
