Memories of Mountjoy School are being sought as a celebration is planned to mark to move from Bridport to new premises in Beaminster.

Past pupils, staff and supporters who have known the school over its 45 years in Bridport are invited to a special event on Thursday October 18, just before the Flood Lane school is packed up ready to move to the new school on the Beaminster School campus.

Current pupils and staff will enjoy a farewell party the following day.

Pupils will start at the new Mountjoy on November 5, which is built for 48 pupils with physical and learning disabilities.

The new school, which is four times larger than the current one, will provide state-of-the-art learning facilities for all pupils including a sensory studio, a media studio, a soft play room and a sensory hydrotherapy pool.

Anyone with photos or mementoes of Mountjoy is being encouraged to attend between 7pm and 9pm and share their memories.

Tessa Hedditch, Mountjoy's finance manager, said the school was hoping to see friends and former students from across the decades.

“There will be a disco going on for the youngsters and we hope to get together with anyone who wants to catch up and share their memories,” she said. We are also going to have refreshments and a video loop showing previous Mountjoy events.”

Mountjoy head teacher James Franzen added: “A big part of Mountjoy is its collective memory and the good work that has been done here over the years and how it has impacted our community.

“We are hoping that quite a number of people will want to come and share their memories of the school over the years.”

Anyone who would like to attend is asked to contact the school beforehand on 01308 422250.
