COASTGUARDS launched a major rescue operation after a caller reported that a person was drowning in Weymouth Harbour.
South West Ambulance alerted rescue teams at around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon.
The Weymouth RNLI Lifeboat was tasked alongside the harbour boat Melway and local vessel Meridian Express.
It was later confirmed that the call was a malicious hoax.
