EAGER beavers, cubs and scouts in Bridport are seeking funds so they can continue to enjoy the great outdoors.

The 1st Bridport Scout Group provides a wide range of exciting outdoors activities and skills for boys and girls.

The Do It for Dorset campaign, which is backed by the Dorset Echo, is hoping to raise awareness and encourage donations to smaller local charities.

Stephen Thompson, of the group, said: “We need your help to support our young members. “We need you to give us your kind donations to purchase some new lightweight camping equipment so they are able to achieve their Chief Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh Award.” Money donated will help young people to achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential.

The group aims to encourage new members to try out new adventure activities and to teach them to challenge themselves to learn and gain confidence outdoors life skills.

A trained volunteer leads each section of the group and activities include camping, map and compass reading, knots, fire lighting and backwoods cooking as well as pioneering.

Mr Thompson added: “Leaders offer young people the confidence, support and guidance to help them improve their teamwork and leadership ability skills, and motivation for them to have the confidence for life outdoors.”

Youngsters of the group are currently benefiting from a new 10-metre high climbing wall but more funds are needed to pay for its upkeep and service.

It is hoped through joining one of the three sections of the group the children will become responsible citizens of their local national and international communities.
