AROUND 200 guests are expected at a celebration of volunteering in 2012.

Volunteer Centre Dorset is holding its annual awards evening at the Dorford Centre in Dorchester on Thursday, October 25.

The event will see the crowning of the young volunteer of the year, volunteer group of the year and volunteer of the year following nominations by local organisations.

It coincides with national Make a Difference Day, which showcases the outstanding voluntary contributions of 2012.

There will be live music and refreshments at the free event at the Dorford Centre, which starts at 7pm.

The deputy manager of Volunteer Centre Dorset, Craig Womble, said: “We have almost 200 guests expected, and with so much county-wide community engagement this year – including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, as well as everything connected with the 2012 Olympics – we feel this year volunteers new and old have really gone that little bit further and have really made it a year to remember.” He added: “Although the event is almost upon us we are still seeking support from organisations that have benefited or appreciated the support of volunteers and have several sponsorship packages still available.”

Anyone interested in supporting the centre is asked to call Craig Womble on 01305 269214 or email c.womble@volunteeringdorset.org.uk
