THE cast and crew of Broadchurch have been warned they face 'serious consequences' if they reveal any spoilers for the upcoming second series of the show.

Producers of the West Dorset-set show are desperate to keep the plot for the second series under wraps and the 60 strong cast, crew and support staff all signed up to a confidentiality clause as part of their contracts.

The clause, called a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA), prohibits them from revealing any secrets of the show and if breached could lead to 'serious consequences', it is understood.

Everyone from David Tennant to camera operators have signed up to the agreement.

The BAFTA award winning first series was a massive hit on the nation's television screens, averaging a massive audience of nine million each week as the nation tuned in to find out who killed Danny Latimer. Programme bosses are hoping the same levels of mystery will surround the next series.

A spokesman for ITV and production company Kudos said: “Cast and production team have been asked to sign an NDA to keep the secrets of Broadchurch.

“We're also appealing to the public who might observe filming to help preserve our secrets as we don't want to spoil enjoyment by giving anything away.”

The show's creator, Bridport-based writer Chris Chibnall, has also pleaded with members of the public not to reveal any of the show's secrets if they spot any filming taking place.

Speaking after the unveiling of the star-studded cast, Mr Chibnall said: “We're all thrilled about returning, especially given how supportive the whole community was last time. We'll do our best to minimise disruption to your daily lives: forgive us if you're occasionally inconvenienced.

“And if you're able to keep our secrets as well as you did last time, we'll be ever so grateful."

Filming is set to take place in West Bay and Bridport in the coming weeks, although the show's producers couldn't say exactly when.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman will both return for the second series, along with original cast members Arthur Darvill, Andrew Buchan and Jodie Whittaker.

Hollywood actress Charlotte Rampling will also play a “pivotal role” in the second series, and she will be joined by new additions James D'Arcy, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The first series of Broadchurch will be aired on ITV Encore from June 9 over four nights.
