A YOUNG Weymouth woman came face to face with royalty to mark months of hard work.
Georgie Townsend, pictured right, aged 18, was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award by the Duke of Edinburgh at a special event at St James’s Palace.
She has worked ‘tirelessly’ on the five sections of the DofE programme which make up the award, culminating in an 110,000 ft trek up Mount Kenya in Africa.
Georgie, a student at Exeter University, completed numerous treks on Dartmoor and mountains in Wales in preparation for the feat.
Whilst in Kenya she also carried out several projects for local communities.
