A CHANCE meeting in America led to a Dorset naval officer and a Boston belle tying the knot.

Timothy Hunt, who is a petty officer in the Fleet Air Arm, based at RNAS Yeovilton, was born at Dorchester Hospital, educated in Broadmayne and Dorchester and has been based in Crossways his whole life.

While on deployment in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2012 Timothy met Greta Carlson and the pair fell in love.

The happy couple tied the knot at Moreton Church and the service was conducted by the Rev Jacquie Birdseye, with readings by Jenny Tomlinson, godmother of the groom and Anne-Marie Carlson, aunt of the bride. The bride wore a dress of lace and organza with cap sleeves by Allure and a handmade veil, first worn by the groom’s great grandmother in 1916. Around 20 friends and relations of the bride were able to support her and flew over from the United States for the special occasion. The groom’s sister Juliet flew in from Spain.

The maid of honour was Tracy Anne Murray, best man was John Mason, flower girl was Evelyn Hunt – the 23-month-old niece and goddaughter of the groom – and the ushers were Andrew Hunt and Luke Westall.

A reception, wedding breakfast and disco were held at Athelhampton House with guests being transported during the day by a big red double-decker bus.
