CHAMPAGNE, tea and cake were the order of the day when Evelyn Booker celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Booker celebrated the milestone birthday surrounded by family and friends at Whitway House nursing home in Winterbourne Abbas.

Family travelled from around the UK and Ireland to be part of the party. Everyone raised a glass of champagne and Mrs Booker said she was ‘very proud’ to receive a birthday card from the queen.

Born in London, Mrs Booker lived in the capital until she met her husband Tom. The couple married and lived in Kent and had two children – Pamela and Patrick.

The couple ran an electrical shop in Kent and during the Second World War, Mrs Booker’s niece Kit Alston came to live with them from London.

They moved to Weymouth nearly 40 years ago to be closer to Pamela and her children. Mr Booker sadly passed away six years ago at the age of 96.

Mrs Booker now has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

DORIS Chainey always said she was going to get her birthday card from the Queen and celebrated her 100th surrounded by friends and family.

Mrs Chainey celebrated on Sunday at Whitway Nursing Home in Winterborne Steepleton, surrounded by flowers, cards, cakes and balloons.

Her daughter Angela Sargent said: “She has always said ‘I’m going to get my card from the Queen’ and she’s done it – she’s amazing.”
Mrs Chainey was born in Taunton and met her husband to be, John, in Yeovil. They lived in London and the Isle of Wight for a while before moving to Wyke Regis in Weymouth as Mr Chainey had a job with the admiralty on Portland.

The pair had two children, Angela and Robert.
Sadly, Mr Chainey passed away at the age of 51 and Robert was just 31 when he sadly passed away.
Mrs Chainey lived in Wyke for 57 years before moving out to Portesham to be closer to her daughter. She lived there for 20 years, living on her own until she was 95.

Mrs Sargent paid tribute to the staff at the nursing home, where Mrs Chainey has lived for the past four-and-a-half-years, she said: “The staff are absolutely fantastic.”
