FORMER Weymouth resident Nick Carter celebrated being awarded with an OBE in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Mr Carter, a defence advisor for the Ministry of Defence, received the OBE for his work as a political adviser to the Afghan Ministry of Defence, restructuring defence in Afghanistan.
Mr Carter, who grew up in Weymouth and attended All Saints Wyke Regis during his childhood, formerly worked in Portland before moving to Naisea near Bristol for his career.
He attended the ceremony with his wife Irene and two sons Milo and Owain and was presented with the award by the Queen.
His mother Maureen Carter, who lives in Weymouth, said her son said he left a lot of friends behind in Afghanistan so he received the award on behalf of all his colleagues too.
She added: “He is very modest about it but the whole of the family are very proud.”
