THE FAMILY of Pilot Officer Richard Carr, 25, celebrated his graduation from Royal Air Force College Cranwell in Lincolnshire.
Richard, who grew up in Preston, Weymouth, studied at Thornlow Prep School and Clayesmore and later went on to gain a degree in Geography with Population Science.
Richard’s mother Hilary Carr, who lives in Weymouth, said: “Obviously as a family everybody is very proud of him; the officer training and the selection process is very hard. It was a fantastic day.
“When you are watching the band play and they all march up, you get a lump in your throat.
She added Auld Lang Syne was played during the ceremony to mark the transition from the graduates’ lives as civilians to their lives as officers.
Richard has now been posted to RAF Halton for his professional training before taking up his first appointment in spring next year.
