A WEYMOUTH woman celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Olive Mullan reached the milestone on February 25.

She celebrated her birthday with a family dinner.

Mrs Mullan was born in Birmingham and worked in factories during the Second World War. She married her husband Jim in 1941 and they had three children: Barry, Matt and Lorraine.

Matt sadly passed away five years ago.

Mrs Mullan’s daughter Lorraine Watkins said her parents had a chance meeting.

She said: “She was standing by the bus stop. He went past on his motorbike and there was a smile and then apparently a couple of days later he saw her again and stopped. She went straight off for a ride on his motorbike and that was it from there.”

The pair were publicans in Birmingham from 1963 to 1979 until sadly Mr Mullan passed away. The couple had three children, ten grandchildren 26 and one on the way great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand children.

Mrs Mullan moved to Weymouth in 1983 to be near Matt and Lorraine.

Mrs Watkins said her mum was a very strong, caring and loving person. She said: “Apart from breaking her hip I have never known her to be ill. She’s got a strong constitution. She’s a very independent and very strong person.

“She’s very caring, loving and would do anything for her family.”
