Long service
A RETIRED carpenter has been awarded
for 26 years of helping disabled people.
Ralph Beggs, 82, of Upwey, is thought to be
one of the longest-serving volunteers for
disability charity Remap. He uses his skills to
make equipment and gadgets that help
disabled people stay independent.
He works with the Dorchester branch of the
charity, which covers Bridport to Swanage
and helps some 45 people every year.
Mr Beggs was thanked at the AGM of
Remap. He said: "The great thing about
volunteering for this charity is that you have
to be innovative.
"I have found it very rewarding. When you
have made something that has enabled a
disabled person to do something they have
never done before in their lives, it is great."
Remap national organiser Sue Iwanek
presented the award.
