TWENTY years ago I thought becoming a Christian would involve a ‘blind leap of faith’.

But now, as a committed Christian, I am always looking out for books which can help others to take the same reasonable step of faith that I have.

I feel ‘The Reason for God’ by Timothy Keller is probably the best. The author is the pastor of a thriving inner-city church in New York, which he funded in the 1980s.

When he told friends of his desire to found a new church in the city they laughed at him.

But over time his church has grown to include more than 5,000 people.

His book is brilliant and just seems to make sense and clearly he is an intelligent and thoughtful man.

In New York, scepticism and faith exist side by side and Mr Keller found a need to meet people right where they were.

So in his preaching and teaching he made room to engage with thinking people and provide them with well-reasoned and well-researched answers for believing the Christian story.

In the book, Mr Keller does not once shy away from the difficult issues that believers face.

That’s why I found it such a helpful book and would highly recommend it.

If you are a seeker after truth or just want to articulate your faith to your friends then this is the book for you and I would advise you to go out and find a copy.
