Piano cover creates friendships
 |
| The cover for the grand piano |
IN 2006, as part of the Abbotsbury Heritage Fayre raising funds for the fabric of St Nicholas Church, 49 residents from the village and the wider community made a fabulous grand piano cover for the Church.
It was the vision of Sue Melville.
In 2007,Janet Davies, a parishioner from the parish of Llangattock in Powys who was down on holiday, visited the church and enthralled by the community spirit and outreach which had come from the project took the idea back to her church in Powys.
Last summer she returned with 53 people on a parish outing to view the cover with a view to doing something similar.
At the end of March Sue received a letter from Janet and the Rev Kelvin Richards informing her that their Friendship Piano Cover had been completed in time to be dedicated on Easter Sunday.
Made of 108 squares, 10 of which had been contributed by the Church Primary School, the cover is sensational and quite different to the one in Abbotsbury. There is a photograph of it on the church notice board.
Janet says that the project had been a great success for the Church and the community at large. Congratulations to all those involved
