Thanks given to Winter Fete helpers
AT THE recent meeting of Bradford Peverell Parish Council Mr Ainslie gave a comprehensive review of the work completed on the surface drainage works in Church Lane.
He reviewed what was needed in the way of regular checks and maintenance which has now been taken on by a team of volunteers and the parish council.
He reviewed what else needed to be done both in the near future and the long term. He confirmed that he will continue to liase with Dorset County Council (highways) and other parties with regard to the soakaways further up the track to New Barn and the future possible replacement of the 9" main drain from the silt trap at the top of Church Lane to the one outside the Mill House.
This drain is too small to cope with really heavy downpours.
Mr Ainslie also reported on the current situation regarding the flow deflector and weir situated at the upper end of the village.
It has been in disrepair for some years and there could be a real problem should it collapse.
He reviewed the work being proposed to repair and maintain it and explained how the work was to be done.
The footpath leading to Stratton would have to be closed for a while as at least the southern half of the footbridge would have to be removed to clear the site for the repair of the weir.
He also explain how the heavy plant required would access the site. The financial side of the proposed works might still be a stumbling block but he remains optimistic at the moment.
Mr Ainslie was thanked by the parish council for all his careful work over these matters.
The council once again discussed signage in the village.
In the past various opinions had been expressed. However it was agreed that there should be a sign outside the village hall pointing to the main road and labelled A37.
Generally other signs were thought to be undesirable, but Coun Pat Burns is to meet with Mr Stubbs to discuss the problem.
John Tipping has resigned from his post as river/flood warden after four years.
It was pointed out that he had a disadvantage having this post as his house was one of the residences most likely to flood.
It was felt that the village did not really have a river flooding problem but that it would be useful to have a representative to keep an eye on the river for possible problems like fallen tress etc.
It was agreed to continue the annual report/newsletter which had previously been put together by ex-councillor Gerald Allum.
It was decided that each councillor or representative should put in a contribution and the clerk would set it up in the form of a newsletter ready for distribution.
Coun Helen Eisner then gave a heartfelt thank you to all involved in running and supporting the Winter Fete in December.
It had resulted in the three village charities each receiving £636.40.
A wonderful effort, which made up for the lack of a summer fair back in July.
The slide in the playground remains closed and the barrier tape should not be touched. A grant application has been made for its replacement.
Under planning there was some discussion about the modified plans for Meggs Cottage and various payments were authorised.
It was also agreed to investigate the possibility of a tree protection order on the Lime Tree on the triangle of grass opposite the village hall.
The next meeting of the Council is on Thursday, March 6.
