Come and join the twinning association
THIS Friday Bradford Peverell and Stratton Twinning Association are holding their AGM, followed by a social gathering in the Village Hall at 7.30pm.
The Twinning Association is very special organisation in the village.
For a start it one of the longest-surviving twinning associations in Dorset and members are very proud of its 22-year history.
In addition to that there is something very special and personal about village twinning associations.
Bradford Peverell and Stratton are small villages and 22 years ago a village of similar size was selected in France. From that time on the association has gone from strength to strength.
There are still families who have been members for all of those years as well as very welcome newer members.
During this time many strong friendships have grown between the French and English families and some extend beyond the bounds of the association. The intimacy of the small village situation encourages this and gives particular value to this kind of twinning.
The programme each year consists of one visit from us to them and one from them to us!
The twinned village in France is called St Sebastien de Raids and is a car journey of just under an hour from Cherbourg. The Twinners are put up in each other's houses and the Poole-Cherbourg ferry service makes it all very convenient.
Visits to local places of interest both sides of the Channel are arranged together with a communal meal in respective village halls. The visits are usually over a weekend, travelling out on the Friday and back on the Sunday.
Not many of us speak French by any means but the language gap seems not to matter at all and it all adds to the fun so do not be put off by this.
So, existing members please come along on Friday and anyone in either Bradford Peverell or Stratton who would like to join or just would like to come and find out what happens then please come to the AGM.
This will not last very long and you will soon be chatting.
You are invited to bring a plate of finger food and your own drink (not necessarily French wine) so do please come. You will be made very welcome.
