Join us for a film at the village hall

THE next Moviola presentation at the village hall is this Saturday, March 15 at 7.30pm.

The film is Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush return for a gripping historical thriller laced with treachery and romance.

Joining them is Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh, a dashing seafarer and new-found temptation for Elizabeth. The film tells the thrilling tale of an era - the story of one woman's crusade to control love, crush enemies and secure her position as a beloved icon of the Western World.

BBC movies said of the film "....a wonderfully seductive, grandiose, unashamedly operatic portrayal of Quenn Elizabeth's finest hour and it's even more rousing because of the chinks already exposed in her armour.. Kapur plays up every high note with arresting imagery that wouldn't be out of place in a 16th century royal portrait. Throw away the history books and behold the majesty!"

Who can resist a review such as this?

Obviously a superb film and it will be very popular so please ring Bryan and Sue on 01305 268156 and book your seat.

This is very advisable as some recent events have sold out and late comers have been disappointed.

  • EVERYONE in the village is pleased that the summer fete is to take place this year, having not happened last year.

This is largely due to Jan Wilson taking up the challenge.

The date is Saturday, July 19 and it may seem some way away but it will be upon us in no time! Therefore the organisers would like to remind folks that they will be in need of the following items for the fayre: homemade produce (cakes, biscuits, jams, chutneys, preserves, etc) china and crockery, bric-a-brac, books, jigsaw puzzles, plants and of course raffle prizes and Tombola prizes.

There will also be a nearly new stall for clothes for all ages including shoes and accessories. Half the money will go to village charities and the other half is yours to keep.

So bear this all in mind and help the village to have a welcome return to the Fayre and to raise a record breaking sum of money.

  • LOOK forward as well to the Bradford Peverell Sponsored Walk in aid of village funds, which will be on Saturday, April 12.

All you have to do is register at the bus shelter at 10.15 for a start at 10.30am.

You can choose whether you do a six-mile walk or a 10-mile walk.

A month away but you need to get your sponsorship forms soon from Barbara Pearson 01305 269403 and then find your sponsors!

  • ANOTHER advanced warning - there will be a heaviest pumpkin competition at the Bradford Peverell Gardening and Cookery Show in the late summer.

Plants should be available at the May plant sale or if you want to grow your own seeds are available from Linda Deering on 01305 257003

  • IT HARDLY seems true that after so many years' faithful service June and Barry Burt are retiring from their task as St Mary's churchwardens.

They have made a huge contribution to the life of the village church and they will be sorely missed.

The Parochial Church Council is to host a buffet lunch at the village hall on Saturday, April 5 to show our gratitude for their service.

Everyone is warmly invited to attend but to help with the catering please ring either Carol Matthews 01305 269132 or Sue Brown 01305 268156 to let them know you are coming so that approximate numbers are known.
