Parish council discusses signage
AT THE recent meeting of Bradford Peverell Parish Council Coun Helen Eisner was able to report the success of the grant application to replace the slide and tower in the Jubilee Field and to top up the bark covering.
This will be organised as soon as possible.
She also expressed sincere thanks to all those involved in The Village Entertains for their donation to the funds. This will be of great assistance.
The slide remains closed for the time being and the grass has already had its first cut, a reflection of climate change perhaps.
Coun Eisner, who has worked so hard over the years in the cause of the playing field, will be stepping down from the council in May and therefore a replacement and a team of volunteers will be urgently needed.
A condition of the public liability insurance is that weekly inspections of the equipment is carried out as well as official inspections.
Without volunteers to do this there is the possibility that the playground will have to close so this is an urgent matter.
After some discussion on signage it was decided the only signs the village needed were an A37 sign by the village hall to direct traffic back to the main road, a 'Single track only with passing places' sign at Muckleford crossroads and a 'No through road' underneath the Church Lane street sign.
Coun Neil Howard is to investigate the possibility of quiet road surfacing on the A37 right from Grimstone down to Charminster because of noise pollution.
The Stratton bypass has already received this treatment.
During the democratic period Mr Ainslie outlined the progress with remedial road works in Church Lane, which are progressing well. It is hoped also that a soakaway will be installed on the bridleway, which will help greatly.
He reported too that work on the damaged millstream deflector and weir had been agreed and work should start later in the year.
Dr Buck reported that the coping stones had still not been replaced on Muckleford Bridge. The clerk is to write to Highways regarding the timetable of replacing the Grimstone streetlights with downlighters on the A37 to cut down on light pollution.
Coun Jill Diment commented that there had been some complaints recently regarding the village Sureline bus service 212.
One elderly villager had been on a bus and the driver had refused to go via the hospital and the lady who has poor eyesight had to walk from the Bridport Road. On the return trip the same lady was deposited on the A37 as the driver would not come into the village as scheduled. The clerk is to write to Sureline for an explanation.
The village spring clean weekend is April 26/27 and posters with information about this will go up in due course.
Various payments were authorised and the next meeting is on Thursday, May 1 which is also the Annual Meeting.
