Concern over proposed new detached home
AT THE last parish council meeting, West Dorset District Council had notified that the recent application in respect of 5 Main Street had been withdrawn.
With regard to the erection of 1 dwelling on land adjacent to Cowley House, the council will be objecting on grounds of over-development, overlooking adjacent properties and access problems.
The council will also be objecting on grounds of scale, height and lack of privacy for neighbours regarding the erection of a new detached dwelling at 1 Martel Close. (Coun Mrs Toogood left the meeting for the discussion on this item).
There was no objection to perform overall crown reduction of 15 per cent on two oak trees subject to tree preservation orders and reduce the canopy spread over neighbouring garages at 30 Oakwood.
A request to erect an extension to form double garage at 2 Chalky Road was received on the day of the meeting.
Scheme for Main Street: Councillors met with a representative from the county council and will be recommending there are double yellow lines from the northern side of Chapel Close finishing at 19 Main Street (formerly The Compasses) and for a short distance on the southern side of Chapel Close.
Members will be meeting with Rob Camp, senior road safety officer, councillors and two public-spirited parishioners with a view to seeing whether a SID post is possible on their property at the eastern edge of the village.
As a result of a suggestion from parishioners, the council agreed to look at suitable places up the hill in Knighton Lane for the provision of a seat using £400 prize money from the Best Kept and Best Community Village Competition.
If you have any ideas please speak to any of the councillors.
Coun Diamond presented an interim report on Broadmayne & West Knighton Sports Facility, which will be updated with more questionnaires to be received from West Knighton.
It is hoped to have proposals to share with parishioners at the annual parish meeting on Monday, March 31 at 7.30 pm in the village hall.
The chairman and Coun Chris Donaghy have met to review progress on actions arising from the parish plan Broadmayne Looks Forward.
As many of the actions are closely related to the Broadmayne and West Knighton sports facility, it is planned to discuss with parishioners at the annual parish meeting.
Stuart White attended an information meeting regarding Portland Gas Storage Project on behalf of the parish council and reported back.
He mentioned particularly the disposal of spoil and the delivery of pipes to the temporary storage area near South Drove.
The clerk was asked to write to the county council concerning the vehicle routes in view of the proposed closure of the road from the A354 to the village as part of the Weymouth relief road.
With regard to 17 Main Street, the parish council is not giving up on this and was pleased to hear from district councillor Thacker that he had discussed further with David Evans, director of planning and environment.
Dr Evans undertook to look further into the matter. You may have noticed that thatch has been falling off the roof onto the highway and the parish clerk has had to ask the district council to clear up.
The clerk was asked to find out more about tree felling and associated work in Chalky Road from the county council, as the parish council had not been notified.
During the democratic period a parishioner brought to the attention of the Council the state of the pavement in Knighton Lane, especially from the bank from Watergates Lane down the hill. The clerk was asked to deal with this.
Eight members of the public attended the meeting.
The next meeting of the council is on Monday, March 7 at 7.30pm in the hall at the back of the Methodist Church.
Members of the public are always welcome to attend.
