SLEEPING Beauty, produced by the Broadmayne Players under the direction of Jo Holdsworth and stage managed by Steve Diamond, was performed to packed audiences.

A young Ollie Titterington gave a splendid performance as Fusspot, the Lord Chamberlain. A mimed duet by Dame Ammonia Goodbody (Paul Read) and Tickles, the Court Jester (Steve Ware) had the audience in stitches.

Other duets were performed by King Cedric VII (Michael Yard) and Queen Semolina (Kate Jeffreys) and Princess Aurora (Victoria Jury) and Prince Valiant (Sally Baker).

Every pantomime has a good fairy, Azuriel played by Alice Marriott and a very wicked fairy, Carabosse (Sue Melhuish) who received the traditional boos and hissing. Shout (Michael Lister) and Bawl (Jenny Tait) added light relief between major scenes.

Twelve local children took part, several of them making quick changes to appear as courtiers, huntsmen, rats, servants and Morris dancers, whilst five made delightful fairies.

Hours of hard work by Steve Diamond, Jim Bayliss, Lynne Kilner and Bob Stent producing the scenery, proved worthwhile and effective lighting was made possible by Luke Makepeace and Carrie Diamond.

It was interesting to note that an entire local family was active in this performance, mother and three sons taking part and father operating the sound.

It is impossible to name everyone, but thanks must go to all the helpers behind the scenes for contributing to yet another successful pantomime.
