Conservatory extension approved
AT THE parish council meeting, it was reported that West Dorset District Council had approved the erection of a conservatory at 3 Old Brickfields.
With regard to the Binnegar Quarry site development, planning application is due to be heard on March 7 and County Councillor David Crowhurst will be representing the views of the parish council.
The chairman and two councillors had met with councillors from affected parish councils in mid-February with a view to a joint approach to the county council regarding traffic measures and this will be sent in due course.
The siting of a Speed Indicator Device on the eastern edge of the village is progressing. A suitable site has been found but a bank will need to be dug into and flattened.
The clerk will be obtaining a quotation for this.
A SITE has been suggested just before the beginning of the bank up to the Watergates Lane turning for the provision of a seat.
County councillor David Crowhurst will help the parish council to find out who owns this land.
A reply has been received from the county council regarding the Portland Gas Storage Project, indicating that the road from the Ridgeway across to Chalky Road would be the route for pipe movement and that it would be undertaken before this road is closed as part of the Weymouth Relief Road Scheme.
WEST Dorset District Council is to be congratulated for the speed in which it dealt with the clearing of the leaves under the bank in Knighton Lane.
The clerk has been asked to contact the Council about litter on Main Street between Bramble Drove and Rectory Road.
THE provision of a bus shelter is progressing slowly.
At the time of writing a response from the Western Divisional Highways is awaited.
CALOR Village of the Year - Regional Finals: A two-hour visit of the judges will take place on Monday, April 21 at 1.30 pm meeting at the village hall.
As part of the entry a copy of the Village Leaflet was included and you will know from that how much is going on in the village.
Should the parish council wish in the future to apply for Quality Parish Council Status (QPCS), there are a list of things it should be doing.
One of these is the production of an annual report and during the year more regular reports to all parishioners - a total of four in any one year.
The parish council chairman has compiled a list of those willing to deliver but many hands make light work.

By the time you read this, you should have received your copy which includes the accounts for 2006-2007.
In future a copy of the minutes will be on the website and the Charlmont Cross notice boards.
The usual short report will be compiled for the three other notice boards and the community news.
QUOTATIONS were accepted for the maintenance of the eight village seats, allotment bank and cutting of hedge along part of Chalky Road.
The bank in Knighton Lane which gets overgrown with brambles has now been put by the county council onto the cyclical strimming schedule.
An order has now been issued to deal with the encroachment of the pavement along Chalky Road from the turning to Lytchetts opposite the allotments.
THE council should hear shortly about the request for a 20mph limit in Knighton Lane.
The clerk has been asked to contact West Dorset District Council to see if signage to properties along the lower part of Chalky Road can be improved.
With regard to the annual pantomime, the parish council was pleased to send a congratulatory letter to the Broadmayne Players which it is understood was appreciated.
THE next meeting of the council is on Monday, April 7 at 7.30 pm in the hall at the back of the Methodist Church.
