Broadmayne
Village is a very safe place to live, says PCSO
THE chairman of the parish council June Salt welcomed just under 40 parishioners to the annual parish meeting.
With regard to the police and road safety partnership, the meeting received a crime report from CPSO Vicky Hedges of which there were 14 in the period 1 March 2007 to 1 March 2008.
Her assessment was that Broadmayne is a very safe place to live. She also talked about her role in the community.
Liz Packer from the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership gave a presentation on both the national and local picture.
The partnership's aim is "to reduce collisions and the number of people killed and seriously injured on Dorset's roads."

Reports were received from county councillor Crowhurst, which covered the following: budgets and measures to deal with funding gap; rearranged committee structure; review of day care provision; traffic; investment in school buildings; replacement of Puddletown First School; children's centre at Broadmayne School: waste disposal and recycling; Trading Standards and underage drinking and the registration service.
Lisa Workman, vice-chairman of the school governors, gave a report on the activities at the school.
She paid tribute to the retiring headteacher Anne Clarke and said that from September the new head would be Melanie Austin.
She spoke about the links to the pre-school group and the good facilities at the new children's centre.
Councillor June Salt thanked all those who had delivered the annual report. She introduced the councillors present and the clerk and paid tribute to their hard work on behalf of the parish.
She also mentioned Eric Coe, the council's transport representative, Dr Janet Davies, the rights of way officer and Michael Whistler, co-opted onto the 1 Crosstree working party.
Broadmayne Looks Forward - councillor Mrs June Salt updated the meeting on progress made on the action plan.
She then mentioned the possibility of a local history group with support from parishioner Dr Mark Forest of the Local History Centre.
Councillor Tony Mason then introduced the idea of a First Responders group in the village.
Support for both was given at the meeting. Anyone interested in either group should contact Mrs Salt on 852480 or Tony Mason on 851704.
Councillor Steve Diamond gave a Powerpoint presentation of the results of the questionnaires of the West Knighton and Broadmayne Sports Facility and proposals for the future.
The accrued amount of £90.000 held by West Dorset District Council would be split 75 per cent Broadmayne: 25 per cent West Knighton.
It was noted that any improvements in facilities at Broadmayne had the support of and would be used by West Knighton parishioners.
A fitness trail and second tennis court was supported by all ages but needed additional land.
If this should not prove possible then an alternative would be to improve the village hall and its facilities.
The chairman introduced Bill Goldsack, chairman of E H Saunders Limited, who informed the meeting about the possibility of land adjacent to the playing field being acquired from the company.
Mr Goldsack indicated that the company was sympathetic but that any negotiations were likely to be protracted.
As it involved the allotments, the company was looking at providing an alternative site within the village and that any allotment holders present should not be worried about spring planting.
The parish council chairman confirmed that the parish council is duty bound to provide allotments.
The chairman undertook to keep parishioners informed of progress but that there needed to be a certain amount of confidentiality at times.
During the open forum, concern was expressed about the forthcoming consultation on post office closures and that whether or not Broadmayne was affected, the village should be starting now to make its case.
Stan Harland, Gordon Murray, Louise Russell and Chris Mellor undertook to get together to form an action group.
Councillors June Salt and Steve Diamond are supporting the group.
The group has already had one meeting and if you wish to support it, please contact any of those named above.
