Children experience travelling skills

9:22am Thursday 10th July 2008

BROADMAYNE School has held many exciting events during this last term of the academic year including having a Vardo on site for a week.

This is a traditional style wagon which was provided by the Traveller Education Services.

Visitors helped the children to get a better understanding of a travelling life style. They had hands on experience in building bender tents as well as washing up and laundering outside.

It was a valuable week and everyone at the school left having learnt something.

The school has also been focusing on encouraging healthy lifestyles and environmental awareness with participation in the DCC Walk to School Week.

This has been extended to the encouragement of cycling and the use of scooters as a mode of school transportation!

Other events before the end of term include an Olympic challenge event and a circus skills day which should be lots of fun.

There are some changes of personnel imminent.

Many people will be aware that Anne Clark is leaving at the end of the summer term after eight very successful years as head teacher.

A celebration evening was held at the school on July 8 when Anne was joined by past pupils, families and colleagues.

There are also changes to the board of governors with Jim Watters stepping down as Chairman after many years loyal service and June Salt is also retiring after an amazing 34 years as a valued member of the school team. School staff wish them well.

Looking ahead to the autumn term, Melanie Austen will be joining as the new head teacher and on Friday, September 12 the PTFA are holding their biggest ever event, Broadmayne Live!

This musical extravaganza is being held in the school grounds and will feature legendry local musician Ben Waters and his band along with full support.

Tickets are on sale at the school or visit www.broadmaynelive.co.uk for details.
