Sign is on its way to the kindergarten
THIS community page comes to you from Fiji. Things are just beginning to get back to normality after the devastation caused by cyclone Gene.
Wherever we go, we are reminded of its strength by wrecked communities and uprooted trees.
We are pleased that all our projects escaped damage and that the construction of our latest sanitation project can now begin.
We have been to see Shayna's father and sister, and been able to update them on Shayna's progress in the UK.
Next week we are travelling to the island of Vanua Levu, ready to put Bill's sign in place at our latest kindergarten. The week after that we shall be travelling to the islands of Ovalau and Moturiki to visit schools and communities there.
The last of the Lent Lunches will be held at the Old School Yard in Cattistock on March 12 and everyone is welcome to join in for the soup and bread lunch from noon to 1.30pm and to meet up with friends.
On March 22 we have the first of this year's Garden Walkabout events.
This is a coffee morning and will be in the Savill Hall from 10.30am onwards.
There will be all the usual attractions, including a raffle, bric-a-brac, book stall and produce stall, and the entrance fee of 50p will include a drink and a hot cross bun.
All proceeds from this and the other 2008 Garden Walkabout events will be divided between the Special Care Baby Unit in Dorchester Hospital and Facing the World', a charity dedicated to providing facial surgery for children from third world countries.
Children of Fiji is holding a quiz evening at the Fox and Hounds from 7.30pm on Friday, March 28.
Teams can have up to six members and the cost is £3 per person. Please contact Neil on 01300 320842 or ask at the Fox and Hounds for more information.
By popular request we are holding another mass balloon release from Cattistock this year in aid of Children of Fiji.
This was a spectacular event last year as a thousand brightly-coloured balloons took to the sky. Last year's winning balloon made it as far as Lithuania.
We wonder how far the 2008 winning balloon will get! For the owner' of the winning balloon this year there will be a prize of a hot air balloon ride for two (valid for a year from various launch sites across the UK).
The prize has been generously donated by Fordington's of Dorchester.
Frome Valley History Society is presenting a talk on The Original Hardy Players at 7.30pm in Rampisham Village Hall.
The cost £3.50. You are probably wondering what date this is taking place. So are we!
As we sit here in Fiji, we have to confess that we forgot to bring that information with us! However, you could contact John Darneley 01935 83347 and hopefully he will be able to provide you with the missing details.
Please note that Yetminster Health Centre has a change in surgery times for Evershot and these will now be on Tuesdays from 4 to 6pm and on Fridays from 9am to 11am.
Please note that Halstock times will be on Tuesdays from 10.30 to 11.30am.
