Walkabout events coming up soon

WE ARE now back in the UK after a very successful trip to Fiji.

We are pleased to say that during this visit we were able to personally deliver Bill's sign and it now stands proudly above the door to our new kindergarten!

  • WE WOULD like to thank all those who supported the recent Cattistock Garden Walkabout coffee morning.

On the day just over £200 was raised. This is the first of three events for the Walkabout.

On May 17 there will be a plant sale in the village hall and the actual open gardens day is on June 29.

This year, all monies raised will be divided between the Special Care Baby Unit at Dorchester Hospital and the charity Facing the World (which carries out reconstructive surgery for children with facial disfigurements from third world/developing countries).

  • ON APRIL 6 you can come along and enjoy a roast lamb/pork lunch with friends and neighbours in Frome Farm Barn.

The cost is £10 per person (£5 for under 10's) and this includes a pudding or cheese and a drink.

To avoid disappointment, make your booking now by telephoning Graham on 01935 83656. It is all in aid of St Mary's Church.

  • ON THE same day (April 6) the Little Acorns Sunday Lunch and Easter Egg Hunt will take place in Evershot Village Hall, starting at 12.30pm.

Lunch will include a choice of local free-range pork or beef, but also features a vegetarian option.

Meals come with all the trimmings and are followed by pudding, but you need to bring your own wine, plate and cutlery. Tickets cost £7 for adults and £4.50 for children.

The Easter egg hunt around the village will start at 2pm.

Cost is £3 per family and in addition there will also be an Easter bonnet competition, followed by afternoon tea.

Tickets are available from Little Acorns or Evershot Shop. If you have any questions about any of these events, please phone Sarah on 01935 83860

  • FRIENDS of St Mary's, Maiden Newton, are holding a fish and chip supper on Friday, April 25.

It starts at 7.30pm in Maiden Newton Village Hall. The cost is just £7 and tickets can be obtained from any committee member or by telephoning Paul on 01300 321112. You need to remember to bring your own drink.

Entertainment will be by Dogs with no Collars (Graham and his clergy colleagues)

  • THIS year is the 150th anniversary of the rebuilding of Cattistock Church.

To celebrate this milestone there will be a Fire and Brimstone service at 6pm led by the Bishop of Sherborne.

There will be period instruments and singers from a well known Gallery Quire. All of this is followed by free victuals and ale from 7pm in the Savill Hall with music and dancing with Bonnie Sartin of the Yetties.

Families are welcome and Victorian dress is encouraged (though not compulsory). Admission is by ticket only. Tickets are available at church services.

  • ON JUNE 7, the Royal British Legion (Maiden Newton and District Branch) is hosting a craft fair in Maiden Newton Village Hall.

We will publish details of such things as timings and entrance charges nearer the time.

This is an advance notice for any craft exhibitors who would like to purchase' a table for the event.

Tables can be booked at £10 each by calling Derek on 01300 320532.
